Self Promotion through Social Media

Social Media has become a very useful medium for Make-up Artists to promote themselves and share their work with likeminded people across the globe.

Websites such as Facebook and Twitter can be used to represent a certain make-up brand or artist and connect with employers or consumers.
Similarly, blogs (such as this one) can be used to document certain events or to share work from the artist themselves, or from other artists who have inspired them in some way. There are many websites, such as Blogger, Tumblr, Wordpress and many more, which provide blogging features and enable people all around the world to see your work or your opinions on certain subjects or products.

I have used various social media platforms to share my work and get my ideas noticed by people in the industry as a way to gain exposure. For example, I have a Facebook page for my Make-up, as well as an online portfolio (both linked here and below*) and I use the app Instagram on my phone and iPad to share some of my make-ups.

Social media sites have been very helpful for me; Instagram, especially, because industry professionals or make-up brands can see, comment on, and share pictures that they have been tagged in and give you a wider audience.
For example, I recently did a make-up using temporary tattoos from a company called Tattify and put a picture of it up on Instagram. I tagged Tattify's Instagram account in the picture so they would see it and they chose me as the winner of their weekly contests so I won $75 worth of their temporary tattoos!
